My name is Dr. Nipu ( Irandi ) Jayatilleke and I'm a specialist Breast Oncoplastic, Thyroid, and General Surgeon.
As a specialist surgeon, I view the surgical procedure as just one small part of the patient's journey. I find that getting to know my patients as individuals enables me to better appreciate what they and their loved ones are going through. When a patient's concerns are truly heard, their doctor is able to respond to them meaningfully and effectively.
This one-on-one interaction is what I enjoy the most about being a doctor. I understand that clear communication with my patients and their GPs is a vital part of the expert support that patients need at a challenging time.
I am passionate about educating the next generation of doctors. I am a clinical tutor in Surgery at the University of Sydney, where I also completed my degrees – Medical Science, and postgraduate Medicine – which I graduated from with Honours.
Having gained Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, I am actively involved with the college, where I advocate for continued excellence and progressive change within the profession.
I undertook my surgical subspecialty training in Breast Oncoplastic Surgery, and Thyroid/ Parathyroid Surgery, at The Waikato Hospital in New Zealand, and the Breast Cancer Institute at Westmead Hospital. I am now a VMO at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, St.Luke’s Private Hospital, and Waratah Private Hospital.
